ello. My name is Kevin, and I’m a net-a-holic. Here is my latest entry into this interweb-thingy.
s of today, here are some relevant things about me:
- 37 years old
- a native Virginian, residing in a suburb of DC
- married to the ever tolerant Jessica, a freelance mosaic artist
- brand new daddy to Tommy, born on Valentine’s Day 2006
- an internetwork engineer with a storied career
- a “compassionate conservative”, or “economic liberal, social conservative” - an enlightened good ol’ boy
- as of May 2002, an Episcopalian, though after the 74th General Convention, I’m not sure what that means
- a motorcyclist (ok, mostly a PUB - wannabe RUB)
- a medievalist
- a customer of Big & Tall stores
started posting an on-line journal in July 2001, long before I’d ever heard the terms weblog or blog. At the time, I was divorced (though I thought I was only separated). In 2002 I sold my house, moved into Jessica’s apartment, and bought a new house less than a mile from the old one. I took possession of it the weekend after I was laid off from Worldcom (rot in jail, Bernie!). It wasn’t unexpected; the place was nothing like the UUNET I joined nearly seven years earlier. I spent the next agonizing 10 months being unemployed or underemployed at FedEx with lots of bills. I did a lot of praying. Finally in May of 2003, I got a job in the ranks of the Beltway Bandits.
any years ago, my ex-wife had forbidden me from ever owning a motorcycle. Naturally, as soon as I left her, I went out and got a learner’s permit and bought a cheap, old motorcycle. Now, having settled into my third motorcycle, I’m hooked. In October of 2003 (yes, a month after the factory closed), I finally got my Indian. I had been longing to get something large enough for me, with lots of style, American-made and not a Harley-Davidson.
hese days, I don’t get out on the bike too often - you can’t put a baby car seat on one. It’s not that I think that my son is preventing me from riding, so much as the fact that I just want to be with him. Tommy and Jessica are the best two things I got goin’, and life is pretty good.
elcome to my world.
