I’m not a terribly big fan of Halloween. I don’t like slash-and-gore movies, and I don’t like all of the occult-ish stuff that abounds. I ignore all the creepy, spooky stuff in the stores and it was actually a relief to walk through the Christmas aisle at Target last night. (Yes, it’s early for Christmas for us, but not for retailers.) Christmas is my favorite holiday.

I was in the Target for a pumpkin carving kit. That’s one part of All Hallows’ Eve I do like. I haven’t done one in a while, but I figured I’d get back into the tradition now that we have Tommy. He deserves to experience the fun of the occasion with all the rest of the little kids. (Even though he’s only 8½ months old this year.) I decided to spread my wings a little and try to do a portrait pumpkin. Of course, I used a picture of the boy, since he’s pretty much the center of my universe right now. I think it turned out all right. It doesn’t look exactly like the photo, but it does resemble him. Perhaps if I had a bigger pumpkin it would have stretched out better, but not bad for a vegetable. (Yes, I know it’s really a fruit.)

Jessica made Tommy the cutest little costume for today. No, he won’t be going trick-or-treating, and probably the only folks who see it will be Jason, Shannon, Regan and Andrew - but it’s a Halloween costume all the same. And there will be lots of pictures, I’m sure.

With cool pumpkins (Jessica’s pumpkin is really cute, too), fun costumes and free candy, I can possibly find a new fondness for the event through my boy’s eyes.
